A Beginners Guide to Islam - For anyone who wants to find out more!

Shifa is pleased to introduce a new programme for anyone aged 15 and above who would like to know more about Islam and what it means to be a Muslim.  

Classes will take place at Shifa, Merton Street , Banbury , OX16 4RP every Saturday from 6.30pm to 7.45pm starting 13 March 2010. Please note classes are free, open to all and no prior registration is required - just turn up!

The class will be taught in 2 sessions of approximately 30 minutes each; each month one special topic will be covered and a key sacred science.

Special topics include:

  • The Lives of Man:

The different stages of life; from the time when the soul was created, to this worldly life, to the life in the grave and the hereafter.

  • Key themes from the life of the Prophet Muhammed peace and blessings be upon him:

This will include the revelation, life in Mecca , the Miraj, life in Medina and his passing away from this world.  

  • Signs of the End of Time:

This including key minor and major signs such as the return of Jesus peace be upon him and the sun rising from the west.

  • The Lives of the Companions:

Life stories and events of the noble companions may Allah be pleased with them.

  • Stories from the Qur'an:

A selection of stories will be studied such as the story of the cave, the Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) and many more.

Sacred Science topics:

  • 'The Morals'

This will help to raise awareness of good characteristics such as having a good opinion of others and being humble. As well as this characteristics that should be avoided will also be looked at such as being arrogant and envious of others.

  • Beliefs

This will outline the beliefs of the Muslim tradition and how these beliefs impact behaviour.

  • Worship

This will look at the purpose of worship, performance and how to benefit from acts of worship by focusing on their deeper meaning.
